The Lone Star Monument and Historical Flag Park opened with great star-studded ceremony on the 175th anniversary of the Battle of San Jacinto April 21, 2011 by The Friends of the Flag Foundation Inc. and the City of Conroe. In the center of the park stands the majestic 14 foot bronze "The Texian"; a masterwork bronze full of life and symbolism by well-known Texas sculptor Craig Campobella (who also conceptually conceived and designed the look of the park). "The Texian “is surrounded by the most historically important battle and rally flags of the Texas Revolution chosen by respected historians. These flags tell the story of the beginnings of The Republic of Texas and how Montgomery County came to be the "Birthplace of the Lone Star Flag".
This park won first place for design in the entire southwest region from the National Parks and Recreation Association.
