Pumpkin-flavored treats, cozy sweaters, and falling leaves all mean one thing: fall has arrived! What better way to celebrate the season than with a trip to Conroe. Located a convenient 40 miles North of Houston, our lakeside city is full of fall activities to keep you and your family entertained for the entire weekend. Here are five ways to celebrate fall during your trip to Conroe:
1. Embark On A Fall Foliage Hike
Feel the fallen leaves crunch beneath your feet and take in the sights of the red and orange hues in the trees as you hike in Sam Houston National Forest. One of only four National Forests in Texas, this 160,000-acre forest is full of year-round hiking, birding, and fishing opportunities. Hop on your bike or lace up your hiking shoes as you make your way through the miles of multi-use trails. Make sure to grab a camera and snap a photo as you explore a portion of the Lone Star Hiking trail. Kiddos will love hunting for geocache treasures in nearby W. Goodrich Jones State Forest and spotting unique birds like Red-cockaded Woodpeckers.
2. Cruise The Waters of Lake Conroe
Add spending the day, or two, on Lake Conroe to the top of your itinerary. While this 22,000-acre lake is bustling in the summer months, the fall time is also an ideal time to explore its tranquil waters. Take in the sights of the trees changing color when you paddleboard, fish, or boat on Lake Conroe this fall. No need to pack your own watercraft, stop by one of Conroe’s local retailers to rent your own stand-up paddleboard, boat, or jet ski. Later, enjoy an afternoon reeling in a fish with your family, Lake Conroe is a top fishing spot after all! Pack your fishing poles and your bait and head to Lake Conroe Park, a 13-acre park featuring fishing piers, picnic tables, barbeque pits, playgrounds, and more.
3. Relax and Unwind at Margaritaville Lake Resort
Say “so long” to long summer nights. Fall means the sun is setting sooner and why not take in the sights of the infamous Conroe sunset from the comfort of a lakeside cabin at Margaritaville Lake Resort. This Jimmy Buffett inspired resort is located on 186 waterfront acres and is full of attractions and relaxing amenities for the entire family to enjoy. Take a sunset dip in one of Margaritaville’s heated pools or claim your half-submerged lounge chair during the day to soak in some rays with a margarita in hand. The kiddos will surely want to splash around at Jolly Mon Water Park featuring waterslides and a giant splash bucket.
After the water fun, indulge in rejuvenating spa treatments at Margaritaville's St. Somewhere Spa. Golf lovers can find their version of relaxation and fun during a round of golf at Margaritaville’s 18-hole golf course. Pine Trees and Bermudagrass greens fill this 6,956-yard course where hole-in-ones are made.
Visiting Halloween weekend? You will have a “spook-tacular” time with activities like trick-or-treating across the resort, a family costume contest, and more.
